Untangle

Through "The Untangle" series, I examine the complexities of African hair care and the resulting discrimination that people of Africa and African descent face from both within and outside their communities. I'm drawn to the paradox of a feature so rich in character, uniqueness, and beauty being rejected simply for not conforming to traditional beauty standards. My work celebrates these often-marginalized features, highlighting that African hair is more than just a physical attribute – it's a divine adornment that can be styled, shaped, and transformed in countless ways, much like the ever-changing forms of clouds. Just as a precious crown requires careful refinement to reach its final splendour, it's no surprise that this elegant aspect of ourselves demands attention and care.
